The Doctors - Scott E. Hughes, DPM
Dr. Scott E. Hughes earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1991 from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. His post-graduate surgical training was conducted at New Haven Foot Surgeons, and included experience in hospitals associated with the Yale University Medical School. He was employed by a large group practice in northern Michigan, and opened an office in Midland for them. In 1995, Dr. Hughes decided to open his own practice and moved to the Monroe area. The first office of Foot & Ankle Specialists, P.C. was located north of Monroe at 7521 Telegraph Road. In 2001, Dr. Hughes had the new office built in the city of Monroe, which is at 1060 N. Monroe St. A satellite office was opened at 7924 Secor Rd. in Lambertville in 1997.
Dr. Hughes is a member of many organizations and serves on several boards and committees. He is a member of the Monroe Rotary Club and has sat on the Board of Directors, and has been the Youth Exchange Officer since 1998. He served as the club's president for the 2002-03 year. He also serves in several capacities for the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association. He has been on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Liaison Committee since 1998 and the Legislative Committee since 1999. He has been the chairman of the Legislative Committee since 2000.
Dr. Hughes is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons. He is a member of the American Association of Podiatric Physicians & Surgeons, the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association and the American Public Health Association.
Dr. Hughes was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany in 1977-79. He is married and lives with his wife Kari in Monroe. They have 5 children. Dr. Hughes loves the outdoors and looks forward to taking his sons on snowmobiling and river rafting trips every year. He enjoys traveling and has been to Europe, Asia and South America, and has been to every state in the U.S. except for Alaska and Hawaii. He also enjoys golf, racquetball (back permitting!), chess, public speaking, and reading and recently began pursuing a new hobby with the introduction of The Dr. Scott Hughes Show on public access TV in Monroe.
